When I asked ChatGPT to improve and focus my resume on an entry-level IT position, it took my current resume and did a pretty great job. When I reviewed the version of the resume ChatGPT created, I noticed how the AI prioritized simplifying my skills from the paragraphs that I had before under the experience that I had at the companies. Another thing that I noticed was how the AI removed my extracurricular section and replaced it with a project and a relevant section. This helps highlight some of the stuff that I did in my free time; I don’t think employers would have cared about my three years in software development and woodworking classes. With these improvements, the AI helped highlight and point out the skills and experience that I have for an IT entry-level position. This project has taught me that instead of having a general resume with all of my experience, I should centralize a resume towards a specific field or position. When I showed this to my old coworker when I worked as a student worker, he said that he was impressed, and a resume like the one ChatGPT generated would definitely be considered as long as it wasn’t AI-generated.
